Thomas J. Montgomery, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with experience in adult reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery, and sports medicine. His practice specializes in sports and occupational injuries, arthroscopic surgery, hand and foot surgery, and total joint replacement, including minimally invasive ROSA Robotic Knee Replacements.
Since 1994, Dr. Montgomery has provided excellent care and treatment to patients. With a new perspective, Dr. Montgomery brings his knowledge and expertise to our team of physicians at Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists.
Dr. Montgomery joined Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists in March 2021. He received his MD from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1988, where he ranked in the top five percent of his class. During his education, he was awarded the Chancellor’s Award from the L.S.U. School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in orthopedic surgery.
He was awarded a limited A.O. European Trauma Fellowship in 1991 in Graz, Austria and Interlochen, Switzerland. He was awarded a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Center for Hip and Knee Surgery in Mooresville, Indiana. Dr. Montgomery is also a recipient of the Charles S. Neer II Award from the American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and received the Outstanding Resident Presentation at the Richards Orthopaedic Resident Conference. Dr. Montgomery provides orthopedic coverage as a team physician for all sports at the University of Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and holds a patent in orthopedic equipment.

Today was 8 week visit after total shoulder replacement. My arm movements are about 90% back to normal so I will now start strengthening exercises. I only took pain meds for 10 days after surgery and have not needed them while going to physical therapy 3 times a week. Dr Montgomery and his staff did a great job on my shoulder and I would highly recommend them.

I am back to have a second knee replacement. I had my right knee replaced 13 years ago and now I’m setting up for the left one. The office staff is second to none and very welcoming. 13 years ago, I mentioned I fished and hunted alligator. On my first visit a nurse stepped in and asked if I still did alligator. Dr Montgomery pinpointed the pain location in seconds and provided a pain relief cortisone shot in the perfect spot. I wanted to make sure I had someone to pinpoint the shot correctly since it was a deep pain so that’s why I chose Dr Montgomery who was recommended. First of all the first person I met was very nice and had a smile!! Then when I was called to the back this nurse and I had a conversation. It wasn’t all just quiet and her asking questions. I recently visited Dr. Thomas J. Montgomery, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports injuries. I wanted an opinion about my knee since suddenly I had started suffering with my knee. I knew he worked with athletes and was familiar with that type of problem/injury. After a very short period of time he saw me in the examination room. He's always been forthright in explaining all the details about an issue whether it be the injury, physical therapy, or last but not least, surgery. Age of 35 had a compete bicep tear. Staff and office help with everything from pre to post surgery, insurance assistance, answered all questions, returned phone calls in a very timely manner. Surgery went as planned with Dr. Montgomery. After surgery had no issues at all. Recovery was easy and almost painless. Six weeks post surgery arm and bicep is recovering amazingly. Here I am 12 weeks later, pain free, walking great and back to my normal active life, and feeling like I have never even had surgery. I felt so comfortable and cared for like family. Dr. Montgomery performed a total knee replacement in 2015.He did a fantastic job. At time of surgery I had given up all travel because of of pain. After surgery and up to now I have been able to travel all over the world. I praise Dr. Montgomery every time I climb up and down stairs and cobblestone paths. Before surgery, he gave me a binder explaining all I needed to do before ,during and after surgery. I have loaned that binder to several people and they were amazed on how complete it was. Had a complete hip replacement in 2013 and everything came out better than my expectations. The staff is totally awesome from Mia who does x-rays to Angela who is the one who assist him during the surgeries. On Feb. 18th 2020 I recently had my right hip replaced and again today went in for my 90 day follow up and again x-rays by Mia and a consultation with Dr. Montgomery all is well. I will go back in 9 months to see them again. I've talked to many people about their hips , shoulders, knees etc. and I always recommend Dr. Montgomery and his staff . They even did my wife's right hip and she is doing just fine. I'm sure there are probably other good surgeons out there but if the need comes up I know where I will go. Dr. Montgomery repaired my torn bicep despite my having waited over a year to have the surgery! He and his entire staff did an amazing job and I am forever grateful to them. It was my first surgery and I was very nervous about what, if any positive results could be achieved, especially given my decision to postpone surgery for so long. He told me it would be a difficult surgery and it was impossible to say for certain how much strength and mobility would return to my arm. Dr. Montgomery is a great surgeon. He has repaired my torn ACL and performed a tennis elbow release on my right elbow. One year after knee surgery I was able to run the Cajun Cup. 3 months after elbow surgery I no longer have any pain. Both surgeries have next to no scarring from the stitches. I made an appointment for Dr. Montgomery to see me about my knee. I could not walk with my left leg. My knee was hurting so bad. Dr Montgomery ordered an MRI and found out I had a torn Meniscus in my left knee. He scheduled me for surgery for the following week. Surgery took only about an hour and a half.
